PoINT Storage Manager is a Windows-based data migration
application that provides centralized administration
of data archival and data storage management to
secondary storage devices such as NAS devices,
CD/DVD jukeboxes, Magneto-Optical jukeboxes, UDO
Optical jukeboxes, and CD/DVD/BD Publishing Systems
such as Rimage and Primera.
Using an intuitive user interface, Archive Jobs
are created with PoINT Storage Manager to provide monitoring,
protection, migration, and transparent access
and recovery of information, so that virtually
every compliance and business continuity issue
relating to data storage and access can be addressed
and satisfied.
Highlights of PoINT Storage Manager
Filter Based Data Archive
PoINT Storage Manager uses a network-wide process of
Filter Based Data Archiving, allowing a system
administrator to create Archive Jobs that will
monitor specified folders, and migrate files that
meet the filter criteria to a target device.
Monitored folders can be located on locally attached
devices, or any accessible network share. Based
on user-defined “conditions” such
as file date, file size, file age, and file attributes,
data files contained within these monitored folders
can be either copied or moved into an Archive
Volume.
PoINT Storage Manager can store Archive Volumes on a
single device at a single location, or on multiple
devices in multiple locations.
Target devices can be “On-Line” magnetic
storage such as a NAS hard disk, or “Off-Line”
optical media produced using automated CD/DVD/BD
disc production systems.
Secondary storage devices such as optical libraries
may also be used as On-Line Archive Volume storage
Devices, and integrates seamlessly with PoINT
Jukebox Manager.
Archive Volumes
Archive Volumes can be created on a wide variety
of storage devices including Hard Drive Arrays,
NAS Devices, CD/DVD Jukeboxes, Magneto-Optical
Jukeboxes, UDO Jukeboxes, and BD Jukeboxes.
In addition, Archive Volumes may be automatically
written to a CD/DVD/BD Publishing System, such
as Rimage and Primera, where all media are produced
using a standardized file system (UDF), assuring
the accuracy and recoverability of the data.
Discs produced on Rimage and Primera can be automatically
labeled & indexed to simplify off-line storage
and retrieval, as well as distribution of published
discs to outside parties.
Archival and Compliance
PoINT Storage Manager provides the security, availability
and authenticity of archived information, which
is a requirement for many compliance regulations
such as SEC 17a-4 and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Archive jobs can be created to monitor existing
local or network shares, and migrate data to Optical
media, while immediately providing WORM File Attributes
to the archive, even when the data is initially
written to a hard disk volume.

Attributes & Transparent Access
The PoINT Tiered Archive File System (TAFS) provides
settings & controls for attribute management
of files within monitored folders, allowing existing
or new data shares to be secured as Write Once
compliant volumes.
Additionally, files which are migrated into Archive
Volumes located on secondary storage devices can
be replaced by links at their original location.
TAFS allows specifying independent conditions
for Archival of data and for replacing source
data files with Links to the Archive Volumes,
freeing up valuable server space while maintaining
transparent read access to the archived data via
the file system.
Authentication Module for Data Security
The PoINT Software Authentication module checks
the integrity of archived files and verifies if
a medium or file has been manipulated, thereby
ensuring the authentication and integrity of the
archive.
Digital fingerprints of the archived files are
encoded and stored in the volume itself, as well
as in the database, allowing any individual Archive
Volume to be examined for consistency.
Additionally, the files in the origin folder
can be compared with the database or with the
archived files, and any documents which have been
deleted or changed are identified and reported
to the administrator.
Data Protection Module
An optional Data Protection module uses encryption
to further protect the entire contents of the
Archive Volumes, preventing unauthorized access
to archived data.
The combination of a system key and different
archive keys makes the files unreadable outside
of the PoINT Storage Manager installation to which the
files belong.
The PoINT Secure File System secures data written
to any Archive Volume, and when used with disc
publishing systems such as Rimage or Primera,
combines the advantages of removable media, with
the security of closed systems.
Search and Retrieval
PoINT Storage Manager provides the ability for individual
files, directories or complete archives to be
searched and copied back to hard disk.
Archiver displays the complete directory tree
of all archived data in an Explorer-like window,
displaying all file information along with the
corresponding Archive Volume can be queried for
each stored file version.
Individual files and folders, as well as the
complete Archive, can be selected and restored,
and retrieval from On-Line Archive Volumes is
completely transparent.
In the case of retrieval from off-line Archive
Volumes, PoINT Storage Manager generates a list of all
media necessary for retrieval of a file, directory
or complete archive. These media are placed in
the publishing system and the files are restored
automatically. Files may be retrieved either to
their original location or to a new location specified
by the user.
